Laser Pigmentation Correction

Pigmented lesions are a common concern for many people and various factors, such as sun damage, aging, and genetics, can cause them. These lesions range from freckles and sunspots to more acute conditions like Nevus of Ota, Mongolian spots, and hyperpigmentation.

In a laser treatment, laser pulses are directed towards the targeted area of the skin. The skin cells that contain excess melanin absorb the intense laser energy, which heats up and dissolves them without causing any harm to the surrounding skin. Once the area is healed, the body’s immune system removes the dead skin cells, revealing more evenly toned, unblemished skin.

Some pigmented lesions, like freckles or age spots for example, can be removed with one singular treatment. Others may require around six or more sessions, depending on various factors such as the requested pigmentation treatment and the patient’s skin health, among others.

Astanza’s Pigmentation Correction Laser Devices

Astanza provides a variety of advanced aesthetic laser devices that are highly effective in correcting pigmentation, including those specifically designed for skin resurfacing and tattoo removal. Investing in Astanza’s advanced aesthetic laser technology backed by the most-comprehensive support system will greatly benefit your med spa business, regardless of which laser device you choose.

Tattoo Removal Lasers

Laser tattoo removal devices can also be used to correct natural cosmetic pigmentation concerns as they utilize the same technology that targets and breaks down pigment in the skin. While tattoo ink and pigmented lesions are different in nature, they both contain pigments that can absorb the laser energy. Astanza’s tattoo removal lasers – the Asclepion PicoStar®, the EternityTSR, the Trinity, and the Duality Signature – resolve pigmentation concerns while leaving the surrounding skin untouched.

The Asclepion PicoStar®, backed by Astanza, is a popular option for pigmentation correction. Due to its picosecond technology, it emits laser pulses in significantly shorter durations than other devices. This laser technology allows for faster and more efficient pigment breakdown compared to nanosecond lasers. The pigment particles are broken down into smaller fragments, which are then easily eliminated through the body’s immune system.

The EternityTSR ruby laser, with a 694 nm wavelength, is a great addition to the Duality Signature or PicoStar® to provide full-color spectrum removal. This powerful ruby laser can also remove benign pigmented lesions, transferring laser energy to the skin without creating “hot spots”, ensuring a safe treatment during every pulse. The EternityTSR ruby laser device also offers an optional MicroSpot handpiece, providing milder and more comfortable experiences for facial pigmentation treatments.

Additional Aesthetic Lasers for Pigmentation

If your med spa has been on the lookout for skin-resurfacing lasers, Astanza has two medical-grade advanced aesthetic laser devices to specifically remove pigmented lesions in addition to performing vascular treatments, among other procedures.

The Asclepion QuadroStarPROYELLOW device has a unique yellow (577 nm) wavelength laser that performs treatments of superficial skin conditions such as melasma, brown spots, and other pigmentation corrections. Its high-power optically pumped semiconductor laser (HOPSL) allows the yellow wavelength to be available in a small and light table-top design with a high power of up to 5 watts. In addition to the standard handpiece with a 1 mm spot size, med spa owners can also add the scanner handpiece as an additional treatment handpiece option. This scanner handpiece makes it possible to quickly and accurately treat pigmentation in the skin, creating a comfortable experience for patients due to its integrated skin-cooling technology and larger treatment surface area measuring up to 15 mm.

Similarly, the Asclepion DermaBlate®, an Erbium:YAG laser with a 2,940 nm wavelength, has multiple treatment capabilities – including pigmented lesion removal for lentigines, café-au-lait spots, and epidermal naevi. Its multiple treatment modes (ablation and fractionated beam) provide the ability for full skin ablation, limiting side effects while achieving impressive results.

Astanza’s entire aesthetic laser device product line is safe for all skin types (Fitzpatrick scale I-VI), diminishing the risk of hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation that other laser devices have caused in darker skin colors.

Revenue Opportunities

Incorporating laser pigmentation correction into your med spa’s range of services can significantly boost its average revenue in several ways. Offering pigmentation correction treatments attracts a broader clientele. By providing a solution for these commonly sought-out treatments, your med spa will re-engage your current clientele while simultaneously adding new patients seeking these pigmentation procedures.

As mentioned, some laser pigmentation correction treatments can be a multi-session procedure, meaning clients will need several appointments to achieve optimal results. On average, the cost of a single laser pigmentation correction treatment can range from $100 to $500, depending on multiple varying factors such as the specific pigmentation treatment and the skin type and health of the patient. Treatments can take around 15 minutes, with a complete removal needing around one to three sessions. Therefore, your med spa’s revenue would increase by $400 to $2,000 per hour.

By adding laser pigmentation correction, your med spa can diversify your offerings, cater to a wider audience, and build loyal client relationships – contributing to a substantial increase in revenue and long term business growth.
