A Specific Type of Laser with Many Applications
‘Nd:YAG’ stands for ‘Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet,’ and ‘LASER’ is an acronym for ‘Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.’ In an Nd:YAG laser, the atoms in an Nd:YAG crystal are excited by a flashlamp, and the Nd:YAG crystal produces amplified light that travels at a specific wavelength – 1064 nm.
The 1064 nm wavelength is outside of the visible spectrum, so the light is invisible and within the infrared range. This wavelength of light has many practical applications.
Nd:YAG lasers are used for a variety of medical, dental, manufacturing, military, automotive, and scientific purposes. The differences between types of Nd:YAG lasers depends on other factors of the laser system – the amount of power delivered to the flashlamp and the pulse width of the laser output.
Nd:YAG Lasers for Laser Tattoo Removal (Q-Switched Nd:YAG)
If it is to be used for laser tattoo removal, the Nd:YAG laser must be a Q-switched laser, meaning that it produces exceptionally brief, powerful pulses of energy that last a few nanoseconds at most. The briefness of the pulse is essential for tattoo removal so that the tattoo ink is shattered while the surrounding tissue remains unharmed. Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers are an excellent choice for tattoo removal because the 1064 nm wavelength produced is absorbed well by black tattoos and other tattoo colors. When the 1064 nm beam is frequency-doubled by a KTP crystal filter, the light starts to travel at a second wavelength, 532 nm. The 532 nm wavelength is very effective on red, pink, orange, and other bright colors.
Together, the two wavelengths of an Nd:YAG laser can treat nearly the complete spectrum of tattoo colors for quality ink shattering and removal – that’s why Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers are the tool of choice for most tattoo removal practitioners.
Astanza Q-Switched Nd:YAG Lasers
Astanza manufactures two Q-switched Nd:YAG laser systems: the Revolution and the Duality. The systems have different features and advantages for laser practitioners.
The Revolution is the perfect system for those looking to enter the aesthetics field and get a quick return on investment.
Portable, affordable, and powerful, the Revolution produces the power and wavelengths you need to effectively remove a wide range of tattoos.
As an added bonus, the Revolution is also FDA-cleared for treating toenail fungus, non-ablative skin resurfacing, and a number of other profitable cosmetic procedures.
The Astanza Duality is a high-performance tattoo removal system for removal of even the most stubborn tattoos.
With high peak power levels, a square homogenized beam for improved safety and efficacy, and an easy-to-use touchscreen, the Duality provides cutting-edge technology for expert results.
The Duality is the laser of choice for standalone tattoo removal clinics, dermatologists, and other medical practices.
All Astanza laser systems come with comprehensive hands-on training, extensive marketing support, and the most responsive technical support in the industry.
